Born in Pennsylvania in 1965, Thom Browne moved to New York City in 1997, where he worked in the creative department of Club Monaco, a position he kept until launching his own label. Believing that the modern ubiquity of casual dress makes for a gap in the market and lends the wearing of suits a sort of subversive edge, Browne has become known for his re-imagining of classic tailored cuts. He debuted his menswear collection in 2003 and introduced his first full line of women’s ready-to-wear for spring 2011.
