Born in Pennsylvania in 1965, Thom Browne moved to New York City in 1997, where he worked in the creative department of Club Monaco, a position he kept until launching his own label. Believing that the modern ubiquity of casual dress makes for a gap in the market and lends the wearing of suits a sort of subversive edge, Browne has become known for his re-imagining of classic tailored cuts. He debuted his menswear collection in 2003 and introduced his first full line of women’s ready-to-wear for spring 2011. Much like his menswear, his womenswear collection takes classic styles of dresses, jackets, and trousers—often in an American palette of red, white and navy—and adds edgy details such as sequined ginghams, textured weaves, and unique prints.
